Those aren't actually Nixie tubes. I believe they are called gas-discharge tubes.

There are a very few radios around that have had their displays changed to LED displays. As far as I know, those were all radios owned by company employees. By modifying the display to LEDs, you could get rid of the high-voltage converter box that caused a lot of problems in the receiver. And, they looked a lot better. I have them in mine.
