[Heath] Heathkit is back?

A few years ago, we (DZKit) were one of an unknown number (we think 2) of
bidders on the Heathkit intellectual property. We lost to the guys who sent
out the announcement. They have said for the last three years that they were
going to bring back Heathkit in all its glory (as were we if we had won).
But they also did something we were not planning to do - be in "stealth"
mode, not letting anyone know their plans or the names of the principals.
They also did a Webinar two years ago in which they said they were planning
to introduce an SDR the following summer (last year). Finally, after three
years, they have introduced a $150 AM radio with no soldering, no dial, with
a "floating backlit" front panel made of wood, no lettering on the switch or
jacks, and a plastic case. This is not the Heathkit I would want today.
That's why we made a real radio, the kind hams actually want to buy and
build. I'm sure they'll get some buyers, since it would I guess be a
collector's item - the first new Heathkit in 23 years. But an AM radio with
no soldering for $150? Seriously? Perhaps they discovered how hard it is to
make competitive kit products at a reasonable price.
Nevertheless, we wish them luck, because if they can succeed at making and
marketing kits, it will lift the entire market up and that should benefit
all kit companies, something I think we all want.

I received this info from a friend of mine. It seems that someone has bought
the Heath name and they are trying to make a go of it. Here is the link:
