It was Heath ensuring the highest accuracy was being displayed on the analog there dial ... but especially with an attached SB-650 (of course the SB-650 had an very accurate time base).

Remember the VFO on the HW-101 (and SBs) shift around a 2KC between USB-LSB mode to compensate for the carrier offsets across the filter.  A single input counter sampling off the VFO frequency needs to add-subtract these carrier crystal offsets to be accurate in both USB-LSB modes. --Need to remember the ring modulators USB-LSB carrier crystals are on offsets to go across the filter.  Their are no free contacts on the mode switch to do this.
