[Heath] DX 100 B

The DX-100B has a clamp tube, a 6AQ5, if I am not mistaken. That must be "set" correctly, 
or your output will suffer. Your description of the symptoms below appear to be those 
associated with the mis-setting of the clamp tube.

Or the tube could be bad.

In any case, my advice is for you to investigate the clamp tube and its settings before looking 
at anything else.
