Heath SB-220 Amateur Radio (Ham) HF Linear Amplifier:

The SB-220 uses a pair of 3-500 tubes to deliver close to legal
limit output on the HF ham bands. It is a proven design that
has been copied by many others.

This SB-220 works fine and looks very close to new, with no
known defects.

In addition, it has recently had most of the Harbach improvements
added including a new set of filter capacitors with improved
equalizing/bleeder resistors, new metering/rectifier board, "Soft
Key" board to reduce keying voltages and currents, Soft Start
to reduce incoming power surges, glitch resistor, protective
diodes, new HV metering resistors, and more. All metering
and equalizing resistors are precision 1% resistors.

This amp produces in the vicinity of 1200 Watts output,
depending on band.

This is a really nice, pristine amp.
Cosmetically, it is perfect.  No scratches or defects.

Resistors for high voltage metering

Do you have a linear amplifier that has an
error in the high voltage reading? Maybe you do
not even know it has an error!

Heath used three 4.7 meg resistors in the SB-220/221
and also in the SB-200/201 amplifiers. Almost all
of these resistors are out of tolerance today, partially
because of their age, but also because their voltage
rating was exceeded.

I was able to obtain a quantity of new resistors that
are 4.7 Meg, 1% tolerance, 2 watt, and are rated to
handle the high voltage. This compares to the original
resistors furnished by Heath that were 4.7 Meg, 5%,
1 watt and about 400 volts.

Note that these can be used in any amp that uses the
4.7 Meg resistors -- not just Heath amps.

Heath SB-220 original metering and rectifier PC board:

This is the original board from an SB-220 HF amp that was replaced
with one of the Harbach boards. Almost all of the resistors on this
board drift over time, and result in inaccurate meter readings. This
board has had ALL of the metering resistors replaced with 1% or 2%
precision resistors. The 4.7 Meg resistors in the high voltage
measuring section have been replaced with resistors rated to take the
high voltage, as well as being more precision. This board includes
the 10 watt zener diode. This effectively makes the board very
similar to the Harbach board, which they sell for $38. Buy this
board for only $25.

These often go up in smoke when there is a tube problem.
