Hi Dave
The first thing I would check is the bush on the front panel through
which the tuning shaft passes.
Then you can release the friction drive and see if the 0-500KHz dial is
free or stiff to turn. I have often found that the friction drives are
set much too tight which not only make them more difficult to turn but
puts far too much stress on the plastic centre which can then start to
crack - another wekk known problem.
