[Heath] 303/401 info

on the 401/303 you have to use the shorting plug in the LMO when using the 303 by it self  can i use the 401 with out having the cables in the BFO & HET  just use the 401 for my Transmit  & use the 303 as the main Receivealso can i plug freq., counter into the back of the 303 or 401 BFO  plug  any type of help thanks dennis ka9dzr
