    Does the diode forward/reverse ok??<br>
    I don't know what the likelihood of a diode's conductivity
    characteristics being ok...yest still be shot. Perhaps someone else
    on <br>
    the list can comment. <br>
    There are a few on ebay, but too pricey. <br>
    I'll bet there are HUNDREDS in ham's parts bins.<br>
    If you determine that is truly the culprit...I would put a few
    "wanted's" out, here and on the homebrew section <br>
    of eham.net<br>

          aren't available any more, and they're Germanium which makes
          them a bit fragile for reverse voltage peaks. The '191 has a
          PRV of 90V which seems awfully low, even given the 68K ohm 2W
          sampling resistor ahead of it going to the SO-239.<br>

          anyone on the List have any suggestions for a good substitute
          which is readily available? I have some 1N270s, but they're
          Silicon and perhaps not as sensitive as those Germaniums.
          Seems to me that I should use a diode with a PRV of more than
          just 90V!<br>
