First of all, realize the bushing that the 1/4" drive shaft goes
thru can get starved of oil and oiling it might solve your
problem...all this requires is removing the tuning knob to get to
the bushing. Secondly, realize that the LMO has a lubricant
that's famous for going sluggish with time. Again, a simple thing
to check is the "big dial"....remove the drive shaft/friction
wheel and turn the big dial with the numbers on it. If it doesn't
turn easily, try a drop of oil where the dial's shaft goes into
the LMO. If this does not work, you have to disassemble the front
panel to get to the LMO, remove it, and rebuild it.... Glen Zook,
rip, had an excellent article on servicing the LMO that should be
around on the web if you look for it...

Sincerely,

When SB tuning friction gets a bit more difficult, what is the
most likely culprit?

This is an SB301, and the rig is sold, built well, and the tuning
hardware is in great shape, But from

age, it is now a bit tight. I'm thinking something needs a micro
drop of oil, but I really don't want to have

to open the LMO. And, if the rig is on a long time, and heats
up.....yes, it gets easier to tune.

I think this is a very typical issue.

Anyone?
