no - there was just some desire to control the holdtime behaviour - i.e.
trying to avoid 3 minute blackouts once a route is withdrawn;

for what purpose do you need to change the update timer ? -
note that the hardcode update timer affects just the periodic updates -
i.e. if a network goes down etc. we will immediatly flash a RIP update;
