.. and I thought that I was the only one suffering from this.

It *IS* still possible to use lynx but at least in my case I now have to 

a) find the complete URL for the software package I want
b) start lynx with the complete URL: "lynx http://download.juniper.net/xxx/yyy/zzz/aaa/bbb/jinstall-foo.tgz"

"Browsing around" with lynx no longer works, I just get into a wierd "authentication failed, retry?" infinite loop.
