No, you don't need the IO module(s). The last quote I received from our Juniper Sales guy was for part number NS-ISG-1000-DC, which is the base unit without the IO slots (which are just for expansion, and in my case, I don't need them).

Hi,
I'm looking at a NetScreen firewall (ISG-1000) and I have a few
questions:
ISG-1000 base system with 4 10/100/1000 Mbps ports is the minimum
hardware base. what i don't understand is: do I need an I/O
controller to use the 4 gigabit cards and also to buy management
software or it's simply enough to buy the base system and have a
working firewall ?
