[j-nsp] VRRP

Hi Ian,

FWIW, we have multiple M-series routers (M7i's), VLAN trunked to Gigabit
switches (Alcatel); and are running VRRP on multiple VLANs off the same
1 Gbit interface on the M-series with no issues to report. (i.e. works
great, less filling)

The only "gotcha" is to ensure that you reserve 3 addresses for your
VRRP Implementation per VLAN. (One as the "virtual" IP, and two for the
"physical" routers). The M-series *do* support the VRRP configuration
where you only use 2 addresses, but it requires change of the base MAC
address of your physical interface to co-incide with the RFC-compliant
VRRP MAC Address - hence you can only do this once per physical
interface. This then eliminates the possibility of running more than one
"2-address VRRP instance" on any particular VLAN-tagged interface.

Other than that - it works like a charm.

- Chris.

Subject: [j-nsp] VRRP

Hi All,

I have been tasked with looking into VRRP. I am pretty new to Juniper
having more a Vendor-C background.

Any gotchas I should be aware of ?
This will be in a switched vlan environment with quite a few vlans.

Thanks
