Alex,

You can try this.

Add the disk back to the boot list. To do that, enter shell as root and run
this command:

root at lab% sysctl -w machdep.bootdevs=pcmcia-flash,compact-flash,disk,lan

Reboot and you should see the disk detected in the dmesg log. Then run the
smartd test. Go to root and execute the following:

root at lab% smartd -oe /dev/ad1 << enable smartd
root at lab% smartd -oX /dev/ad1 << runs the test, wait for it to complete
root at lab% smartd -oa /dev/ad1 << prints out the results

The result should be sent out to JTAC for them to issue the RMA should the
disk proved to be faulty. If there's no problem, then you probably had a
false alarm. Happened to us quite a number of times. Had the RE replaced
just once, can't be certain if the false alarms can be attributed to
specific RE line.

/ihsan

Subject: [j-nsp] M7i hard disk hint needed

Hi,
Recently our m7i lost its hard disk - it is present in setup, but while
booting the device is not detected:

Automatic reboot in progress...

are there any possible passes to recover the system, or we need to change
hard drive?

Is it possible to run system without hard drive temporary and where can i
find some docs about this?

thanks,

Sincerely Yours,
Alexander
