  I'm only aware of software feature licenses; that is, hardware 
alterations will not affect your feature licenses in ways other than 
those relating to resource limitations.  I can't comment on the 
warranty -- if it's a concern, talk to your account rep.  Juniper at 
least allows you to open the chassis without voiding the warranty.
  I have 2GB of ECC ram in an SSG 550, for instance.  ScreenOS will 
not boot with 3GB installed.  The additional RAM doesn't seem to 
affect the ultimate limitations of the unit -- it's an appliance, 
after all.
