For routing between VRs there is no need to use any type of tunnels or interfaces as you can simply leak routes using rib-groups or use static routes with a 'next-table' keyword to direct traffic into another VR. Having said that, there may be instances where you do want to connect VRs via a physical interface, such as the case where you are doing "Firewall-on-a-stick" models coupled with Filter-Based Forwarding (FBF).

How about virtual-router routing-instances? Can you connect two of those on
the same router without tying up physical interfaces?
