It varies depending upon the RE that you have in the M-series. Max routes in a routing table has two variables; the RAM in the RE and the DRAM for the FIB. You can control how many routes you allow in each VRF; but essentially you could have a single VRF with max capacity of routes for the RE, or you can distribute this across some number of VRFs. 

Some numbers to take under consideration but not as the gospel:

RE-400-768, you can do about 1.5M routes in your RIB.
RE-850-1536, you can do about 6M routes in your RIB. 
RE-A-1000-2048 about 13M routes
RE-A-2000-4096 about 15M routes. 

On M-series you would be limited to about 4k VRFs. This smaller RE (RE-400-768) would best be served with a value about 1/4 of this value due to memory.
