Hi Matthias,
When you just use the 'deactivate protocols bgp group abcd neighbor 1.2.3.4' traffic will move from this session smoothly and shortly afterwards there will be no traffic on the interface (if dedicated) anymore and it can be safely disconnected or maintained.
