[j-nsp] "code violations" on MX-960 ethernet interface

We have a gigabit Ethernet link between a pair of our datacenters, a "show interfaces ge-2/0/8 extensive" on our MX-960 side displays a slowly incrementing "code violations" counter but no other errors. No "code violations" on the other side at all. There isn't much info on Juniper about what this means and if it's actually a problem. We've been having some sporadic reports of performance issues but nothing concrete.

Have any of you ever seen this before and know if it's something that can be fixed or is even a problem? All other interface stats show the circuit as running clean.
