I wonder if these ports are connected to a PFE, or if they are
direct-to-RE ports.  If the latter, they may never be usable as
revenue ports but they might make it easier for Juniper to implement
external routing engines or distributed/clustering technologies like
the TX Matrix Plus with the Line Card Chassis.  This is just a guess.
