Re: update on pond matters
Greetings. Now that we are seeing a glimpse of warmer weather, I would like
to update you about the status of various MPC projects and activities.
Please share this memo with other family members and take special note of
items 3 and 4.
1. Thanks to Chuck and Dick Harris, we now have a brand new kicker with
a guaranteed hull.
2. The Brewer Water District installed its gate this week, in order to
restrict vehicular access to Hatcase Pond. They have informed all Hatcase
residents about the gate and are planning to post a sign on Route 46
indicating that access is restricted this road. The gate won't be locked
until every camp owner has a key. We expect this will be in early July.
3. Chuck has made keys that will work for both this gate and our gate.
Jonathan Harris will be mailing copies to each camp director. It is
critical that you circulate these among family members, and make additional
copies as needed, so that Chuck does not have to meet guests at the gate.
4. Please let Chuck know as soon as possible when you would like your
camp opened and whom to expect at your camp this summer. He has only heard
from a few camp owners thus far.
5. We have had some trouble with the Newbert's this Spring. It started
when Mrs. Leadbetter contacted John Mills this May to find out if a
contractor could drive into her camp. John inspected the road and let her
know that it was passable. Unfortunately, he neglected to inform Unc and
Dunc that she would be arriving. Apparently, Unc turned the contractors
away and then tore up a good section of the road just to make it impassable.
Thanks to Chuck's diplomacy and a little help from the Brewer Water
District, some of this damage has been repaired. We plan to have John Mills
hire someone to repair the rest of it soon since its clear that Unc has done
the repair work that he plans to do. Fortunately, we have $500 from the
Brewer Water District to apply to our road expenses.
6. Don Auten and I are still negotiating with Phil Johnson about a
possible land swap. He is concerned about receiving State funding for the
protection of his land since the easement will need to allow for public
access, particularly hunting. If Johnson decides to turn down State
funding, the New England Forestry Foundation will need to raise
$300,000-$400,000 to fund the project.
7. The Annual meeting is scheduled for Saturday, August 7th. We hope
to invite the Hatcase folks to our cocktail party the night beforehand. The
cocktail party will be at the Harris camp.
8. For anyone interested: the Maine Lakes Conference is scheduled for
June 19th at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. Anyone interesting
in attending should contact the Maine Congress of Lakes Association @
877-254-2511 or info at mainecola.org for a registration form.
