Description:

Today and every day, VeriSign intelligent infrastructure services
enable and protect an ever-increasing number of interactions over the
world's voice and data networks, helping to drive a dramatic
transformation in the way people work, play, and live.

The Shared Networks team supports and maintains VeriSign's worldwide
core and edge network infrastructure. This includes the negotiation,
engineering and support of intra- and inter-datacenter transport,
transit, routing and switching, as well as shared tool and platform
support.

The candidate will work collaboratively with other operations and
architecture groups to define standards and best practices, redesign
and re-engineer network components when needed, and will participate
in a 24x7 on-call rotation for trouble resolution.

The candidate will further work with the information security
organization to assist in the detection and mitigation of security
events.

The candidate should be comfortable maintaining infrastructure with
100% uptime requirements, and should be readily able to communicate
with downstream customers regarding maintenance needs, platform
capabilities and service degradations.

The candidate must be knowledgeable in the areas of Internet routing
protocol operation, network analysis, peering & transit issues,
capacity planning, router and switch configuration and
troubleshooting.

The candidate's experience should center heavily around the operation
of an international, MPLS-based commercial backbone network. The
ability to perform traffic engineering actions on-demand as well as
the ability to rapidly diagnose and mitigate service-impacting issues
is critical to this role.

The individual should be highly motivated, results oriented and should
have excellent communication, writing, presentation, and
troubleshooting skills. The candidate should have experience
interacting with management on complex technical issues.

To qualify for this opportunity, candidates must have the right
balance of the problem solving abilities, hands-on analysis skills and
have the ability to create both prescriptive and descriptive
documentation.

Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science (or equivalent knowledge),
preferably with 5+ years of industry experience in large/carrier
networks.

The candidate must be knowledgeable and conversant with modern
Internet routing protocols, including BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP and IS-IS.
Further, the candidate must be familiar with complex layer 2 ethernet
topologies and associated protocols.

Experience with MPLS-based L3 VPN as well as draft-Kompella L2 VPN
technology is desirable.

The candidate should have experience dealing with complex multivendor
layer 2,3 and 4-7 environments, including Cisco, Juniper and
CheckPoint.

Experience with stateful firewall deployments and IPSEC is desirable,
as is some experience with DWDM-based transport and optical switch
administration.

The candidate should be comfortable operating systems and deploying
configurations to detect and mitigate complex and often unpredictable
traffic anomalies, to include the use of IDS/IPS devices, packet
sniffers, flow-based tools and traditional MPLS and BGP-based traffic
engineering measures.

The candidate should have experience operating and enhancing network
management tools to analyze traffic characteristics, assess network
and device health, and should be able to assist with implementing tool
interoperability. Desired languages: PERL, JavaScript or C/C++.

Experience with Linux system administration is desirable.

The candidate should have a fundamental knowledge of DNS and its
associated operational details.
