The University of Maryland, Division of Information Technology, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Network Integration Software Engineer. This engineer is responsible for the planning, design, and development/integration of systems that are tightly coupled with the University's enterprise-wide converged communications infrastructure for data, voice, and video. This involves working closely with voice and data engineers while providing guidance and direction from a software perspective. Secondary responsibilities include managing the University's Tele-Management System (TMS), assisting in the migration to the new tele-management system - Pinnacle, and training the engineer who will be the primary support personnel for the new TMS solution. This engineer is also responsible for the campus DNS/DHCP services. This involves gathering requirements, beta testing with several vendor solutions, creating documentation, presenting the solutions to the team, working with the vendor once the solution has been selected and with the purchasing department for SOWs and contract reviews. With the selected solution, this engineer is responsible for creating an implementation plan and leading the deployment effort for IT. Additional responsibilities for this engineer include sharing in the duties of supporting one of the thirteen root servers on the commodity Internet. This is a highly visible, critical service to the Internet community that requires a great deal of care and commitment. The engineer is also heavily involved in all future plans for the root server that UMD manages. This engineer assists the Network Operation Center with NMS support and the Finance and Human Resources unit with TMS support.
