My intention was definately not to rant but to find the bug.
Let me ask from the source for more information.

If they could file a bug report (to bind9-bugs at isc.org) in regards to
the performance of the betas, that would be greatly appreciated. We
knew we would take a performance hit with the -P1 releases, it was
judged that a fix that clawed back most of the the performance numbers
would be too drastic for a patch release and that it should be beta
tested first.
If running the betas is still showing drastically decreased performance,
than we/ISC really want to know about it. (If you are going to say "BIND
sucks" at least let us know why first <grin>)
Best Wishes - Peter
