i am guilty of bypassing too many abuse@ inboxes for historical reasons. 
nothing gets done too often or it takes too damned long. replies are 
sometimes useless; i really don't like getting into basic explanations 
with an abuse desk person who doesn't get it, i have too many things to 
do.

my other driving concern is that the abuse@ desk doesn't see trends and 
usually can't quickly respond to real problems in a systematic way. 
someone like pmoody can, i hope, rope in enough folks to fix a broken 
system, not just patch symptoms with inbox takedowns etc.

that said peter (nor his colleagues at google or elsewhere) does not 
scale.
