Ladies and Gentlemen,
This email is to announce a unique conference that Team Cymru and
Interpol are jointly hosting from May 5th to 7th 2009 at the Interpol
headquarters building in Lyon, France.
It’s called “The Underground Economy 2009”.
I'm sure you're aware of the significant advances that law enforcement
worldwide have recently made in the way they work with industry in order
to combat cyber crime. Various key operations, mailing lists and task
forces have all made our job of working together a little easier but, at
the same time, the miscreants have continued to evolve both their
techniques, professional networking abilities and their technology.
The Underground Economy remains strong, even thriving, despite the hard
work of many of us to try to stem the tide of money flowing from
victims to these criminal syndicates. This conference is intended to
bring law enforcement and industry together to learn about how the
entire Underground Economy works and to discuss ways we can regain the
initiative in this continuing fight.
It won't just be about botnets, we'll talk about malware, phishing,
techniques used to move and launder money, the economics of the
Underground Economy, legalities of various investigative approaches...in
fact, in this closed, trusted environment, we hope to be able to address
a whole host of important topics that currently rarely get to be
discussed in such detail with the right law enforcement together with
the right industry representatives. In addition, the current agenda
showcases investigation case studies from many of the major
investigations of 2008 - the inside story told by the people that worked
these cases.
We have space for 200 people, roughly divided between half law
enforcement (LE) and half non-LE including the financial services,
internet security and academic communities. There will be no charge for
delegates to attend this conference. Also, Team Cymru is providing need
based assistance to a number of worthwhile law enforcement officers.
To register, go to <https://conferences.team-cymru.org/> and enter the
site with the password 'int3rw3b', without the quotes. There you can
review the latest agenda and register to attend.
The organizers will review your registration based on a need for
security and based on a need for delegates from a broad cross section of
geographic regions and industry sectors.
Please therefore note that registering does not automatically guarantee
a place at this event and you are strongly advised not to make any
travel arrangements until you have received confirmation that there is a
place for you to attend. You will receive an email specifically
confirming that a space has been reserved for you to attend, at the
earliest opportunity.
Cheers,
- -Dave
