"The Gathering", a large (~5500 participants) LAN party is taking place
in Hamar, Norway, during Easter, specifically 31. March - 4. April. See
http://www.gathering.org/tg10/
for more information about the arrangement. I am sending this mail as
a headsup to the nsp-security community.
This LAN party is going to have 30 Gbps of Internet capacity, delivered
through AS 2116 (Ventelo). Each individual participant will have a one
Gigabit/s link. IP addresses, announced via 2116, are the following:
IPv4: 89.22.0.0/16 (announced a separate prefix)
IPv6: 2001:8c0:9840::/48 (covered by 2116 2001:8c0::/32 prefix)
Inevitably, during such a large arrangement, there will be some amount
of spam sent through participants' PCs, there will be virus infected
PCs (which could be part of botnets), and there will probably be some
participants "trying out" things that they shouldn't (DoSing etc).
If you see what you believe are nefarious activities coming from the
participants of The Gathering, the first point of contact should be the
tech people at the arrangement:

They are quite capable of stomping on participants breaking the AUP.

Last but not least, Vidar Østmo (vidar.ostmo at ventelo.no) and myself
(sthaug at nethelp.no) are both on the nsp-security list, and can handle
any technical problems that might need to be resolved on the *uplinks*
of The Gathering arrangement (ie. within AS 2116).
