doesn't make sense.

Based on this information, it would be my recommendation that status pages
indicate whether their status is updated manually or automatically, and how
often.

It's hard to suggest that their NOC isn't competent over something like
this.
Whose responsibility is communication to the customer?
Most NOC's are only responsible for acting as middle-men to alert
engineers when a problem appears, or to solve basic issues.

Let's leave the pejorative remarks at the door, please.
