Sometimes the best option is to make a deal with the enemy, to meet a
common objective.
The backhoes are constantly fighting amongst themselves about whose
turn it is to next to do the best damage to someone else's line, and
they are territorial about the whole thing.

They are also highly susceptible to suggestion, in the form of
manipulation of certain switches and control arms, and bribes in the
form of gifts of additional backhoe fuel.

So it's possible to take advantage of their jealousy and persuade a
rival backhoe, to have involvement in undoing the alleged out-of-turn
damage, caused by one of their peers, at the possible risk of a
future double cross, they might even try to attack on someone else's
line, while attempting to excavate yours, but the alternative is
also a bad one.
