Absolutely a fine idea. If you have something truly important to add to the non-discuss thread, then take the 5 seconds to set the reply to the main list. But if you're just mindlessly replying or arguing, well, off to -discuss if you're not really paying attention or don't have the technical chops to put your reply on -discuss. :)
