This statement is ridiculous. Sorry, I had to drop this comment.. the
middle east is a vast region and there are many cross border links,
comparable to the west. There are reasons why Turkey is prominent due to
geography and the sophistication of operators like Turk Telecom but its not
"the only decent transit pop" (also when did a country count as being a
"pop")

Syria is somewhat more fragile being under UN embargos but it still has
cross border links to the south as well. Not sure who "the rest of them"
are - all the countries in the region? Bizarre idea.
