DNS is fine, as are the front-end HTTP servers for both the main and the archive sites. I actually have authoritative information from NYT staff about what's happening, and it's a self-inflicted wound, having to do with a software update that was rolled out to both the production and backup servers simultaneously. And failed, obviously.
