I encourage my customers to always assume carriers, hardware, and software
are going to fail and have backup plans/methods. Either the business pays
for it before it's needed or they lose money or productivity that affects
the bottom line. It's a pretty simple equation: Hey Boss, if the business
is OK with outages we do not need backup/redundancy. But if we are out for
x hours it will cost y dollars. What's your business decision: pay for
redundancy/backup or be ok with outages? Redundancy is not necessarily a
technical issue; it is a business issue.
