multibind says only, that this (virtual) interface can be bound to many physical interfaces (i.e. your subscribers). In normal circumstances exact one physical interface can be bound to a virtual interface.

If you need PPP you need to declare a "encapsulation ppp" at the physical interface and then bind this to the multibind interface.
