Jim,

You're right about that. The "2-port" cards do have (4) fully functional
ports, they are simply not "entitled" - the command show hard card
x detail will yield this info i.e. (ports entitled 1,3: Chassis
entitled SE400)

The only caveat is that Redback will not give a customer support on the
non-"entitled" ports.

The 2-Port OC3/STM1 module works the same way.

Here’s the EOL info for the following PPA1 GigE mods for the SE400/SE800

EIM-SE8-L3-4GE	(GBIC Based)
EIM2-SE8-L3-4GE	(GBIC Based-High Memory)
EIM3-SE8-L3-4GE	(SFP Based, Traffic Management)

End of Sales Announcement: May 18th, 2010
Last Time Buy: October 30th, 2010
End of Delivery: December 31st, 2010
End of Maintenance: April 30th, 2012
End of Support: April 30th, 2014
Last release supporting PPA1 line cards: SEOS 6.4

The EIM-SE8-5GE is the replacement for these modules. However the price tag
is a bit steep, unless you can find refurbished units. ***Shameless plug***
---> We do have a few of these modules in stock if anyone needs any.

Best regards,

Todd Houser

Yup it seems its a hardware swap. We had this issue a few years back, we
wanted to use an extra couple of ports and expected we could get them
licenced, but no it would have to be a hardware swap. If I recall it was
something silly like ?27k to trade in our 2 port card for a 4 port, or ?28k
to buy another 2 port, so we ended up buying another 2 port card (it also
increased our L2TP session limit).

Arent the EIM-SE8-L3-4GE now EOL or approaching anyway and need replacing
with 5 port cards? FYI we noticed ports 3 &4 on our 2 port card were
actually fully functional which made the whole trade in and buy a 4port card
for $$$ ridiculous when we already effectively had a 4 port card there...

Jim.
