Hi team,
I'd like to hold each of you upside down and shake until some money
comes out. The goal is to raise $20,000 USD to fund a new open-source
RPKI validator.
What it boils down to is that RIPE NCC's validator is slowly dying (RIPE
NCC's core business is not maintaining validators), which leaves us with
only NLNetLab's Routinator. This is not healthy, we need multiple
validators to exist.
My plan is to contract a developer & release a validator as part of the
core OpenBSD system (just like openssh, openbgpd, opensmtpd, etc) - this
provides us with a few interesting things:
- from that moment on we can point at a BGP software stack that
ships by default *with* rpki origin validation capable software,
perhaps this inspires cisco & juniper
- we'll have another validator which is lightweight, portable, and
written in a different language than the RIPE or NLNetLab's one.
My pitch is here:

If a few companies pitch in a few thousand USD each, we'll have a high
quality RPKI validator within a few months! Sponsorship happens through
invoices.
Kind regards,
Job
