The upgrade for patch-tool can be run live, but I always run it in a
maintenance window to be safe.  

Worst comes to worst if the patchtool upgrade fails your actual upgrade is
delayed.  This is better than running an update with an out-of-date version
of patchtool that could cause the system upgrade to fail or leave things in
a funky state.

Plus Broadsoft TAC might scold you if you do have an issue after upgrading
on an old patchtool.

What's your upgrade stance on BW's patchtool?  Its recommend to upgrade it
when you patch, but the thing is always running.  You can't run tech-support
without invoking patchtool, for instance.
