I think it really depends on whether you're looking for a multi-tenant 
PBX / Class 5 subscriber services box +/- with feature server, or more 
of a Class 4 style tandem router.

If your primary application is core infrastructural routing, I would 
say neither the Metaswitch nor Sonus are particularly economical 
choices.
