[VoiceOps] Edgemarc Experiences

>From my limited exposure with them it really only provides QoS on an
unmanaged LAN which can help if you are dealing with people on DSL or other
public internet connections and the problems they have are LAN based
data/VoIP contention. For example someone on the LAN is saturating the
uplink with bit torrents - this can help make sure that the VoIP traffic
takes priority without you having to manage their firewall/router. Of
course this takes some time to setup and test. Simple VLANs can do the same
thing with some work as well but the edgemark devices are a decent option
for those looking for a one time set it and forget it option in this
context.

For the real issues - It doesn't support SCCP (those really cool looking
Cisco phones) and it really doesn't help anything over the public internet.
In some cases a simple TCP based tunnel can help improve call quality over
public networks by keeping packet ordering and loss to a minimum but this
comes with it's own trials and tribulations without much guarantee.

Long story short - it may help depending on the problem you are trying to
solve but be aware of the actual problem first.
