I don't know much of anything about wireless, and I assume spectrum and
bandwidth concerns are still real factors. However, if the industry
plans to shift calling to LTE, it clearly isn't too much of a limiting
factor?
There was a time where certain parties from a large wireless carrier were sounding the alarm about spectral waste, even as their very own marketing teams were extolling the virtues of watching television on your mobile phone. This sort of talking out of both sides tends to destroy credibility.
That same company recently launched their own streaming video service...cuz how hard could it be, right? T-Mobile doesn't even count some streaming video against the customers data allocation.
Of course there are very real constraints, but the sky has yet to fall.
