Hi Darin,

     So there are two services they offer in respect to this: their own hosted service and their PaaS (platform as a service). The PaaS is essentially your own bare metal servers but in their racks and ops managed network.

   At first, to build client base, it pays to use their hosted. But when you want your own services, modifications and infrastructure , you need to have your own cluster/infrastructure. PaaS gives us that without the need of a full blown OPs team and NOC with  overhead of DCs and bandwidth contracts and management. While that's built into the price of the service with 2600hz, we have the very team who manages the core software and with their volume collectively, we share in the overall reduction in cost.

After a consideration of the numbers and overall benefits, it just made perfect sense to use their PaaS offering: less overall management and cost. Given our confidence in the future of 2600hz and the Kazoo platform, it made perfect sense.

So you are hosting on your own servers today but you are now migrating to their own hosted platform where they operate the infrastructure? It seems that most people will start out on hosted to save upfront costs and then eventually migrate to their own platform to save money over time.

You're doing it opposite so if possible, can you elaborate on how this will reduce your ops costs enough to actually offset the additional costs of paying them for hosting instead of you doing it yourself? Is there a large cost in them hosting it vs. you doing your own servers?

Both actually. When first available for geek purposes. However when business began to thrive I contracted with 2600hz so I could focus on the business side. Their services are far more reasonable, especially price wise, than the licensing and support from the likes of broadsoft - leaving more room to compete in the marketplace.

A great open source competitor to Broadsoft etc, would be Kazoo by 2600hz. We leverage their APIs to tied into our E911 and abilities to purchase and provision TNs in real time, with a great UI for our clients. You should check it out.
