Just a guess based on the quick console recording. </div><div id="AppleMailSignature"><br></div><div id="AppleMailSignature">Correct, SS7 doesn't carry the actual voice it handles the signaling to bring up the voice channels (by identifying be point code and CICs) and various other signaling bits.
