[nsp] Duplicated IP address

I just noticed that we can configure duplicated ip
address on serial interfaces like this:

!
interface Serial0/0
 ip address 192.0.9.1 255.255.255.0
!
interface Serial0/1
 ip address 192.0.9.1 255.255.255.0
!

The routing table shows two routes and it will load
balance the outbound packets

...
C 192.0.9.0/24 is directly connected, Serial0/1
                  is directly connected, Serial0/0

Why is this allowed? I tried this on p2p ATM
interface, it complained about overlapping
address(which sounds right to me). Is there any
legitimate use for this?

Thanks
Juan
