Now if Cisco would sell a 2950 with 4 GBIC or SFP ports... - which is
the main reason for a 3508XL: not-so-expensive L2 switch with more than
2 fiber GE ports...

The new 2970 series looks promising (24 copper GE ports, 4 SFP GE
ports, and less money than the 3508XL :) ) - but that wasn't available
half a year ago.
