[cisco-voip] Time on Phones

On a slightly related note, I have very recently logged a bug with Cisco in
regards to broken NTP support in the SIP firmware for the IP phones beginning in
8.3(2) onwards.

The response has been to acknowledge that Yes, NTP is broken (CSCso40588), but
No, they will not fix it as the correct Date/Time should fail over to using the
Date: header from the SIP/CallManager server - and if your CCM has the wrong
time, so will all the phones.

This is a fallback position given the NTP is not functional, but in a normal CCM
environment should be OK. It is all documented at:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/admin/5_1_3/ccmcfg/b02ntpsv.pdf

In light of that I would *not* recommend relying on NTP on phones running later
versions of firmware.

The server side however is a different matter - and yes, certainly should be set
to sync to an accurate NTP server. Remember that NTP works in UTC though, it's
timezone independent, and the Date: header in the SIP control is also in UTC
(only) :-) So the OP's issue MAY well come back to upgrading firmware on
handsets.................
