you can use the basic always there 'cu' command.... eg

cu -s 9600 -l /dev/ttyS0

(depends on what the USB adapter makes your serial look like)

theres also ZTerm  (which i'd recommend for its more inituitive file
xfer methods... using cu with XModem  can be a little arcane!)
