Interesting ... although, when we investigate the issues there is never a
fault. As of about 2 months ago we saw about 1 PS or FAN failure (real one)
every year or so ... that's over 288 routers all either 7513 or 7206. In the
last 2 months we've had about 6 diffent chassis' report either a fan failed
(4 in the month of May alone)... nothing has ever turned up as a real
problem when investigated.

May 13 20:58:35 hcap1-tor 40249: May 13 20:58:30.144 EST: %CI-3-BLOWER: ps1
fan failure (7513 - 12.0.16(S1))
May 18 13:25:13 hcap4-tor 1328: May 18 13:25:01.062 EST: %CI-3-BLOWER: ps1
fan failure (7513 - 12.0.16(S1))
May 24 10:28:26 hcap2-tor 2699: May 24 10:28:19.829 EST: %CI-3-BLOWER: ps1
fan failure (7513 - 12.0.16(S1))
May 26 01:14:20 aggr4-van 774: May 25 22:14:13.033 PST: %CI-3-BLOWER: ps1
fan failure (7507 - 11.1.33(CC1))

The last router is a legacy box that is due for de-commishioning soon ...
thus no IOS upgrades ... so, 2 different IOS' and the age of these chassis'
are all over the place ... the newest one is only a year old ... so I find
it hard to beleive it's a MTBF issue. I can't seem to find any bug reports
on this either ... I would hate to RMA parts that don't really need it.

James,

The problem is more than likely with the Chassis Interface (CI) than the
PSU's. I would advise getting this changed to resolve the issue:

Part code: MAS-7500CI=

Instructions:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/core/cis7505/cicg7500/cicg75
m3.htm#xtocid2433612
