Well, a suggestion would be to talk to your provider and extract
the underlying physical routing and transport/multiplexing technologies
supporting your "point to point clear channel link". There could be
some surprises there. Until you do the RTT reported by your router
is "just a number" and one that has some significant granularity down
towards the millisecond end of the scale.
