Dear All,
I have come across two peculiar problems on a Cisco 7206-VXR NPE 300
router. I tried using a Bootloader version 12.0(9), & while the router
booted the bootloader software, I was getting an error like "NVRAM
corrupt". This did not prevent the router from booting, & it went through
the process normally. Then as per a mention in the Cisco site, I changed
the version of the Bootloader software to 12.0(9)S. While I booted this
bootloader software, I got a msg like "unknown command router" while the
router was going through the bootloader process. Once again the router was
booting up completely. It was during this time that suddenly the FE port
of the NPE engine worked erratically, Suddenly I was only able to ping
the FE interface with a success rate of 10%. I had connected the FE port
to the PC directly (using a cross cable).
Finally I removed the bootloader software from the bootflash, & booted the
router. This time I saw no error messages. Apart from redundancy is there
any reason why I would need the bootloader software, Can I be without
booting it ?
Even after this my FE port was not working properly, Suddenly after an
hour, the port came back to normal.
What could be the reason for all this confusion.
Kindly enlighten me.
With warm regards,
Vinod.
