I have seen older 2900 version which do not support any vlan other than 1 as
a managment VLAN

Consider an IOS upgrade.

Also, does the 2900 switch support ISL? you can use that for trunking...

interface vlan 999
 ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.0.0
 management

and
int vl 1
 no ip addr
(disables bootp)

is how you do it, but i dont think that the 4MB 2900's support this; i think
your mgmt vlan has to be 1 on these older units.
